UK MARKET HIGHIGHTS

Ecommerce was worth £133 bn in 2016 (IMRG Report), which represents a 16% growth compared to 2015. One of the main explanations is the steady and ongoing growth of mCommerce. Not surprisingly, 14% growth had already been predicted for Ecommerce in 2017.
Next-Day Delivery services are now accounting for almost a third on online retail orders. In 2016, Next-Day delivery was selected for 31% of online orders, compared to 26.8% in 2015 (IMRG MetaPack UK Delivery Index). In fact, retailers are promoting quite intensively this service on their homepage to convert visitors into customers.

KEY PLAYERS

Amazon: Amazon Dash button goes virtual online and on mobile. Amazon Prime customers can now create buttons for millions of Prime-eligible products and place orders in an instant from the home page or the app. Finally Amazon Go should be deployed in London in the next coming months.
Ocado continues to fend off competition: full-year pre-tax profit increased 21.8% to 14.5 million in the year ending November 27th, 2016. Ocado has focused on its customer proposition as well as technologies and as a result its active customer base grew by almost 14% in 2016.

INNOVATION & TRENDS

GAP is testing a smartphone application that allows customers try on clothes virtually. The DressingRoom app, an augmented reality solution, allows shoppers to overlay different clothes and outfits to see how they look before making a buying decision. One more proof that Virtual Reality will impact Retail and Customer Experience. Read more about the trend here.
