Beauty & Mobile: three well-executed apps

Mobile is key for beauty brands, however only 7% of women use beauty apps when searching products or inspirations. This is mainly due to the lack of outstanding (or even only good) shopping experience on beauty mobile apps.

B.D.C. selected three well-executed and innovating beauty apps that change the way customers shop beauty products.

O.P.I & its ”Try on” tool

Most of the time, online sales for nail brands are quite small as customers want to see how the nail polish color looks like in real. Indeed only 5% of nail products are sold on brand websites. In order to embrace the Mobile First reality, OPI designed its first mobile-friendly ”try on” tool. Through the O.P.I Nail Studio app you can input your skin tone and preferred nail length, and then the app will display polish shades on a model hand similar to yours to help you select what shades fits you the best. Otherwise, you can also take a photo of your hand to see directly which color match your skin tone.

Spruce, a skincare diagnosis on your phone

This app takes skincare to the next level; the Spruce app offers dermatologist appointments through your phone. Looking at each doctor’s profiles through the app, you can choose the certified dermatologist you prefer and then share skin issues, information and photos through the app. Whatever your skin concern is, you can instantaneously send photos or details through the app and within 24 hours you will receive a personalized skincare treatment plan. The app had been featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Wired and TechCrunch and is available in the US so far.

MatchCo App, a skintone’s matchmaker

According to Sephora, women buy the wrong foundation shades around seven times before finding the right one. Annoying, isn’t it? MatchCo tends to fix the issue creating your bespoke blend to sent it straight to your door in few days. By simply scanning a few images of your skin (cheeks, forehead, wrists, etc.) with your smartphone (and under indoor light), the mobile app can analyze and match your needs with the right product.
